Scarecrows Win Tight International Conference North Race Wednesday, April 27th , 1955 Mathius Schwanthaler called it "one of the best parts of being a pro ballplayer." The Dortmund University Scarecrows closer was referring to winning a division title, as his club has just captured the International Conference North crown. "There's not many better feelings than winning a tight pennant race," he said. "We worked hard for it all year, have our record at 26-24 right now and feel we're in good shape for the postseason." It was the 1st time the Scarecrows have won the division. It may be a high for Schwanthaler and his teammates, but there is certainly one better feeling he's now hoping for. "Winning the Championship Series," he said. "Nothing would top that." |
