Masuda Leads Prairie University to 1-0 Win Over University of the Desert Thursday, April 30th , 1953 The University of the Desert Cowboys manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Prairie University Golden Gophers. The Cowboys were overpowered by Prairie University starter Hideki Masuda, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said. Over 9 innings, Masuda blanked University of the Desert on 8 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Masuda said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." Masuda has a 11-3 season record so far. In 17 starts, he has fanned 99 batters in 146.2 innings with a 3.13 ERA. |
