Redwood University Advances to Division Series
Thursday, April 30th , 1953
The Redwood University Fireflies and North West Florida University Aligators clubhouses couldn't have been any more opposite after the Wildcard Series concluded at Bearcats Stadium.
The Fireflies clubhouse was alive with music and loud celebration as the team rejoiced after a 9-5 win to advance to the Division Series. The Aligators clubhouse was completely quiet, with hardly a word spoken, as the team struggled with the fact that their season was now over and there would be no Championship Series championship.
"Our guys wanted this badly, so it hurts," said North West Florida University manager .
Redwood University left-hander Josh Gilfillan was named series MVP as he threw 6.1 innings, with 7 strikeouts, while allowing 8 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs in the win.
"We're feeling good about our chances now," Gilfillan said. "Getting through the one-game playoff is huge and will take some pressure off."
The Redwood University Fireflies will play against the Prairie University Golden Gophers in the next round. Prairie University won their series against the University of the Desert Cowboys. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
