Thrilling Win Sends Prairie University to Next Round Saturday, May 2nd , 1953 The Prairie University Golden Gophers stepped up when it counted and are off to the League Championship Series. With a 6-4 win at Raccoons Grounds, Prairie University has eliminated the Redwood University Fireflies and won the Division Series. "Our guys knew what it took to win and we stepped up when we most needed to," said reliever Devon Atkinson. "We need that same intensity and effort in the next round too." Atkinson was named series MVP as he threw 5 innings, with no strikeouts, while allowing 2 hits, no walks and no runs. Fireflies manager said his team is already focused on getting back to the playoffs and having a better result next year. The Prairie University Golden Gophers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Eastern New York University Steelers - Arecibo University Tarzans series. That series has not started yet. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes. |
