Tarzans Move on to League Championship Series Saturday, May 2nd , 1953 Josef Dopfer was a picture of composure and ferocity on the mound during the Division Series. Off the mound, with a 4-3 victory secured and his Arecibo University Tarzans having just eliminated the Eastern New York University Steelers, he couldn't help but smile. "It was all business when I was on the mound, but now I can relax, knowing we made it through," he said. "I don't remember being as focused on any start in my career as I was tonight." That focus paid off, as the Arecibo University starter was named MVP as he threw 7 innings, with 7 strikeouts, while allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs. Eastern New York University manager gave Dopfer credit for the strong effort and said it's not how his club envisioned the season coming to an end. "You tip your cap to them and try to learn from it," he said solemnly. The Arecibo University Tarzans will play against the Prairie University Golden Gophers in the next round. Prairie University won their series against the Redwood University Fireflies. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes. |
