Pitcher of the Year Award Goes to Romero
Saturday, May 21st , 1955
What does it take to win the Pitcher of the Year Award?

Just ask Dante Romero of the Arecibo University Tarzans -- the latest North American Conference Pitcher of the Year Award winner.

"My dad always told me to dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the Pitcher of the Year Award," he said. "I have big aspirations for what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career."

The Tarzans pitching ace made some of his dreams come true this year, winning 10 games and losing only 2. In 14 starts, Romero registered a 2.57 ERA and limited other clubs to a .221 batting average. He fanned 69 in 108.2 innings and issued 27 walks.

He received 30 first place votes out of a possible 32. Rich Taylor of the Andre Wolfeson University Indians finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Travis Withey of the Bismarck State University Bears finished third.
