When it came to hitting the baseball, Jon Bertelson had few peers in the International Conference this year. The gifted first baseman for Cumana University tagged opposing pitchers for a .387 average and was voted the Most Valuable Player Award for 1953. Included in his season stats were 70 hits, 21 doubles, 4 triples, 13 home runs, 42 runs scored and 41 RBIs.
