Wilk Dominates North West Florida University Friday, April 6th , 1956 The North West Florida University Aligators manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Jan Kowalski University Warriors. The Aligators were overpowered by Jan Kowalski University starter Sam Wilk, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said. Over 9 innings, Wilk blanked North West Florida University on 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Wilk said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." This season, Wilk has fashioned a 7-1 mark and 2.24 ERA in 60.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .203 against him and he has logged 31 strikeouts. |
