North West Florida University Wins Wildcard Series
Wednesday, April 28th , 1954
With the entire season on the line, the North West Florida University Aligators prevailed by a score of 9-3 to get past the Bakersfield Institute of Technology Golden Bears in the Wildcard Series.
"We're off to the Division Series and feeling great," said North West Florida University left fielder Tommy Smith, who was named game MVP after going 4-for-5. "It would have been tough to have worked hard all year and then be knocked out in one game."
The dejection was obvious on the other side of the field, as Bakersfield Institute of Technology skipper said the single-game playoff loss was a "tough end to a great season."
The North West Florida University Aligators will play against the Corpus Christi A&M Dolphins in the next round. Corpus Christi A&M won their series against the Arecibo University Tarzans. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
