The Janison Institute Wins League Championship Series
Sunday, May 2nd , 1954
The The Janison Institute Wolverines were counting on Brian Barnett to put forward a strong performance in the League Championship Series at Team 16 Grounds. He certainly delivered.
With a solid 7 innings, Barnett earned MVP honors as his team beat the Corpus Christi A&M Dolphins 5-4 to advance to the Championship Series.
"I tried to just think of it as any other game," said the The Janison Institute starter. "But if we lose, we go home and I'd be lying if I said that didn't keep crossing my mind. That's motivation, for sure."
Barnett also had 7 strikeouts, while allowing 9 hits, 7 walks and 4 runs.
While he wasn't willing to concede that the Wolverines are a superior team overall, Corpus Christi A&M manager gave credit to The Janison Institute for putting their best foot forward in a one-game format.
"They beat us straight up, that's all there is to it," he said.
The The Janison Institute Wolverines don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Rome Institute Shockers - Cumana University Fighting Lions series. That series has not started yet. The Championship Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
