Soto Wins Award for NAC Dominance
Saturday, June 14th , 1952
Alex Soto said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 19 years old.

But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Bakersfield Institute of Technology Golden Bears rising star has won the North American Conference Reliever of the Year Award for 1952.

He captured the award on the strength of his 1.21 ERA over 37.1 innings. He also had 9 saves in 25 relief appearances, 14 strikeouts and only 14 walks.

He received 18 first place votes out of a possible 32. Richard Ortega of the Eastern New York University Steelers finished second in voting with 14 first place votes, while Robert Acuna of the University of the Desert Cowboys finished third.
