Carrillo Tosses No-No Against Knighthawks Monday, March 31st , 1952 In a true baseball rarity, Manny Carrillo of the Kristoph Martins Trade School Sabercats no-hit the Montpellier Central High School Knighthawks at Knighthawks Field and -- incredibly -- still took the loss. The right-handed Carrillo shackled the Knighthawks all game, allowing no hits over 8 innings. However, Montpellier Central High School was able to cobble together enough through other means to outscore the hapless Sabercats offense and take an unlikely 1-0 win. "There's no getting around it, we mucked it up for Manny today," Kristoph Martins Trade School manager said. "We always tell them 'Go out there and pitch a good game and we'll take care of the rest.' Well, he gave us an incredible game and we blew it, plain and simple." A visibly upset Carrillo declined to speak with BNN reporters following the game. He recorded 6 strikeouts and surrendered 3 walks in a sensational performance that will nevertheless go into the league record books as a loss. This year, Carrillo has worked 40.2 innings with 32 strikeouts en route to a 0-4 record and a 7.75 ERA. |
