Colón University Wins Wildcard Series
Wednesday, April 29th , 1953
The Colón University Nuggets were counting on Tom Alderman to put forward a strong performance in the Wildcard Series at Team 30 Grounds. He certainly delivered.
With a solid 9 innings, Alderman earned MVP honors as his team beat the Southern Melbourne University Dingos 4-0 to advance to the Division Series.
"I tried to just think of it as any other game," said the Colón University starter. "But if we lose, we go home and I'd be lying if I said that didn't keep crossing my mind. That's motivation, for sure."
Alderman also had 4 strikeouts, while allowing 9 hits, 2 walks and no runs.
While he wasn't willing to concede that the Nuggets are a superior team overall, Southern Melbourne University manager gave credit to Colón University for putting their best foot forward in a one-game format.
"They beat us straight up, that's all there is to it," he said.
The Colón University Nuggets will play against the Punta Cana University Triplets in the next round. Punta Cana University won their series against the Kaohsiung University Golden Panthers. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
